Countdown to Global Wellness Day 2019 begins

First celebrated in 2012, Global Wellness Day was established in Turkey as a day dedicated to living well.

Last year, Global Wellness Day has been celebrated simultaneously in 130 countries at 5,000 different locations with different events ranging from the GWD flag reaching the summit of Mt. Everest to giving medical care to children at the Thailand and Myanmar border and visiting elderly people’s home in Brazil.

Global Wellness Day will be celebrated on Saturday, 8 June 2019. It is an entirely not-for-profit day, a social project dedicated to living well. The purpose of Global Wellness Day is to ask the question, even if for just one day, “How can I live a healthier and better life?”, to direct the thoughts of both individuals and society towards “living well” and to raise awareness.

The main aims of the day are:

• To recognize the value of our lives
• To pause and think, even if for just one day of the year
• To be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits
• To make peace with ourselves
• To raise awareness about living well and increase motivation, not just for today, but for the remaining 364 days of the year

GWD was founded by Belgin Aksoy, who founded Richmond Nua Wellness Spa, Turkey’s first destination spa and one of Europe’s best equipped and award-winning spas.

In 2012, she founded Global Wellness Day, bringing her vision to the world. GWD is celebrated with complimentary activities around the world with the slogan: “One day you can change your whole life”.

In 2016, the Global Wellness Institute awarded Ms Aksoy the Leading Woman in Wellness.
